ABOUT US
By 2050, 68% of the world’s population is projected to live in cities. Urban centers are well positioned to transform the fight against noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and injuries.
The Partnership for Healthy Cities
With over half the global population now living in urban settings, cities and their leaders play a critical role in developing, implementing and enforcing policies to create healthy environments for healthier populations.
NCDs and injuries kill almost 46 million people globally each year. The Partnership for Healthy Cities, supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies in partnership with the World Health Organization and global health organization Vital Strategies, is a global network of 74 cities whose leaders have committed to prevent NCDs—including cancer, diabetes, heart disease and chronic lung disease—and injuries through proven interventions.
As part of their work with the Partnership, each city selects one of 14 interventions proven to prevent NCDs and injuries. Read more about our cities' work here. Or download our information sheet in English, French or Spanish.
